“There’s a thin line between life and death. You’ll find me there.”
Every character in Apex Legends has their own unique playstyle and moveset. How you combine your abilities with your squad members can make or break the match. Apex Legends is more team focused than other battle royale games, adding strategy similar to other team based shooters like Overwatch.
Wraith is a formidable fighter with no memory of her past life. A distant whispering in her mind helped her harness the power of void manipulation. Now she hunts for the truth of her true identity in old research facilities on the island now used for King’s Canyon.
Here’s a guide to teach you how to utilize Wraith’s abilities as she warps through reality to bring down the enemy. Make sure to also check out our tier list of the best characters in Apex Legends.
With her reality warping skillset, Wraith is a formidable offensive Legend, meant for the frontlines of battle. While capable of sustaining herself, don’t run off solo with her. Wraith’s portals let your squad travel behind the enemy with her for one hell of an ambush.
Highly versatile, Wraith’s void manipulation is good for multiple paths of use. She can use her abilities to scout the area ahead, rescue downed teammates, prepare ambushes, retreat from a losing battle, and even trick enemies into an accidental suicide (if you’re clever enough).
The key tactic is to always be on the move during a firefight. Wraith’s least useful when remaining stationary to snipe from far off. Her portals are most useful offensively, meaning you’ll often be close up with opponents. You’ll want a close range weapon to make the best use of her skills. A Wingman pistol or Mastiff shotgun will do wonders. Keep on the move and listen to the Void to take down opposing teams.
Passive Ability: Voices from the Void
A voice warns you when danger approaches. As far as you can tell, it's on your side.
An ethereal voice from somewhere beyond warns Wraith of approaching danger, so listen closely. Stay close to your team so they get the advantage as well. The voice speaks in a whisper, so you’ll want to listen closely. It’s not a bad idea to use a headset or turn subtitles on so you don’t miss any foresight.
Make sure you hit the prompt to warn teammates when the voice warns you of something. You’ll know if an enemy sees you, if a Nox Gas Trap is through a doorway, or if grenade is coming your way. These little warnings can give you just enough reaction time to save your hide. Sometimes you’ll even hear footsteps louder, letting you know about oncoming enemies.
Tactical Ability: Into the Void
Reposition quickly through the safety of void space, avoiding all damage.
Wraith jumps into the Void with this ability, letting her run through void space invulnerable and invisible. The world becomes a grey sight. While safe from harm in the Void, you can’t see enemies, so keep track of their position before activating the ability. You also leave a purple trail behind you, so be ready and on the move when you come back to reality.
Into the Void grants a speed boost as well, making it nice to flee or ambush enemies. You can’t interact with most things while in the Void. That means no picking up items, guns, or ally beacons, nor can you open closed doors. You can still sprint and climb obstacles, however.
Ultimate Ability: Dimensional Rift
Link two locations with portals for 60 seconds, allowing anyone to use them.
Dimensional Rift is one of the best Ultimates available. She can open two portals anywhere, letting anyone use them to go back and forth. This can be used to get a positional advantage on your foes or let down enemies crawl to safety. It’s handy if you’re scouting with Wraith as well. Drop a portal in a safe zone and run ahead. If you happen upon any enemies, use the second portal to get out fast.
Be careful. Much like Pathfinder’s Zipline Gun, anyone can use the portals. This means enemies can follow after your squad. Don’t be taken unaware. This can be used to your advantage though, letting you bait people into using the portals and taking them down when they warp through.
Tips for Playing Wraith
Wraith’s passive is helpful for sensing incoming threats, but it also keeps her highly effective at long range. The voice will warn if enemies spot you. It also works while looking down a sniper’s scope. If you do get sighted, let your squad know and disappear into the Void. Still, Wraith’s mobility makes her a heavy hitter up close. But she has the flexibility to fit both playstyles.
Into the Void is a very good defensive ability. It’s useful for retreating and for covering open ground to revive a teammate or pick up their beacon. If your squad is communicating, you can use the Void to get into a flanking position. Just have your squad relay the enemy’s position. To make the most of traveling the Void, you’ll want a pretty good understanding of King’s Canyon. Into the Void is most useful in zones you’re familiar with.
Her ultimate is highly versatile. Once both portals are placed down, your team can stage a powerful flank and even use the portals to retreat if necessary. Be careful where you place either of the portals because enemies can use them just as easily as you. Place them carefully or think about hiding them with other Legends’ abilities, like Banaglore’s smoke canisters.
If your squad is up for it, you can throw down a portal in a very conspicuous zone, then prepare a trap, whether it’s guns aimed to fire or Caustic’s Nox Gas Traps ready to go off. Any unfortunate enemy walking through the portal won’t know what hit them. If you’re especially devious, placing the portals in dangerous areas can kill unsuspecting foes. Put one of your portals on the map edge and anyone going through it will plummet to their death. You can also place a portal well outside of the ring’s safe zone.
Be wary around Bloodhound as they can track Wraith’s paths through the Void. Wraith can also be left at risk if tricked or taken by surprise. Bangalore’s smoke grenades can obscure your vision and Mirage’s abilities can lead you after the wrong target. If necessary, use her abilities to disengage and try again. Subterfuge is Wraith’s game; don’t let the other Legends reverse her trickery and fool her instead.
